Application of RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology in libraries
Time:2026.01.24 Visit:5

Anyone who has visited a library knows the struggle of finding a book on a shelf. If a book or document you urgently need is misplaced, you might feel like the most unfortunate person in the world. Fortunately, if each document is tagged with an RFID tag, readers can easily find the information they need from a vast sea of books and documents simply by walking past the shelves with a reader in hand. If the shelves were equipped with "smart bookshelves" similar to those in "future stores," finding a book would be as easy as following a map—completely eliminating the arduous task of searching.

Application of RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology in libraries

RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) is a type of contactless automatic identification technology (AUTOID). Unlike traditional barcodes based on photoelectric principles, RFID tags require no manual operation; instead, they use wireless frequency communication for automatic identification, tracking, and management. Although many RFID libraries exist in countries like the United States and Europe, due to the high cost and technical requirements of RFID tags, no libraries in China currently implement them in practice.
